Therapy in San Luis Obispo
Claudia Kraake
Associate Therapist
Welcome! I’m so glad you’re here. I’m an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist who is passionate about walking alongside individuals, children, couples, and families as they navigate life’s challenges. Whether you're working through anxiety, a life transition, parenting challenges, or relational stress, I strive to offer a safe, empathic, and collaborative space where meaningful growth can occur. My approach is trauma-informed, culturally attuned, and person-centered. I believe healing happens in the presence of compassion, curiosity, and connection. I integrate evidence-based modalities including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), and Exposure with Response Prevention (ERP), while always honoring each client's unique developmental and cultural background. I believe that therapy should feel like a space where you are met with warmth, authenticity, and deep respect for your lived experience. I would be honored to support you on your journey.

Background
Training, experience, and the path that informs Claudia's work.
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Child Development, with a minor in Psychology, from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, where I later completed my Master of Science in Psychology. Throughout my training, I gained experience in school-based, clinic, and community mental health settings, supporting children, adolescents, and adults. I’ve received specialized training in trauma-informed care, perinatal mental health, social-emotional development, and evidence-based interventions including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and Exposure with Response Prevention (ERP). Before becoming a therapist, I worked closely with families as a nanny and human service provider; roles that deeply shaped my relational and developmental approach. These early experiences taught me the importance of attunement, patience, and co-regulation, which continue to inform my work with clients today.
More About Me
A quick glimpse of who Claudia is outside the therapy room.
Outside of the therapy room, I’m someone who deeply values creativity, connection, and lifelong learning. I enjoy exploring local shops, taking long walks on the Central Coast, reorganizing spaces, board games, and listening to podcasts. I’m always finding inspiration in both the everyday and the extraordinary moments of life!
